Okay! So this is the first part. It's still a rough draft so any comments or critisism you have would be greatly appreciated

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to have super powers? To be able to fly or run at the speed of light? Well so have I but never in a million years would I expect to actually get the chance to do so. Why don’t I start at the beginning, before it all happened…
It was the last day of school, a day more wanted than even Christmas, one we had been waiting nine months for. The last class was almost over, just ten minutes left of it. I looked over at my two best friends Will and Carla. They were both staring at the clock like everyone else, not even bothering to listen to the teacher’s words.
Wilford, or Will as most call him, has been my best friend since Pre K. Will’s dirty blond hair looked as it always did, like he had just gotten out of bed and hadn’t bothered to brush it. This was probably true. His mud colored eyes had a glaze over them as he stared intently at the clock. Waiting for that bell to ring freedom.
Carla’s eyes were doing the same thing only instead of being a muddy color they’re more of a stormy grey. She had one brown curl that had escaped her pony tail. She’s also been my friend since Pre K.
I decided that I should probably put all my things away before the bell rung because I really didn’t want to get caught in the door jamb that usually followed the ending of a class. One by one I shoved all my things for history into my black backpack. A soon as I finished the bell rang; “School’s out” blaring from the announcement speakers. I bolted for the door trying to make it out, and…YES!
Freedom.
“Hey Michael! Wait up man!” Will shouted, trying to elbow past everyone but not making much of a dent in the crowd. He eventually got over to me with Carla right on his heels.
“We’re free Mike!” She grinned.
“Yeah, I can’t wait to go home and just lay around all day doing absolutely nothing,” I replied, cramming my hands into my pockets.
“Well maybe we got into that one summer camp. You know, the one we applied to ages ago—” She tripped over someone’s roller backpack and her books toppled out of her arms, landing on my feet. I inhaled sharply. “Oops! Sorry Mike! I didn’t—“
“It’s okay Carla,” I said, cutting her off. I bent down and scooped them up, had her turn around, and roughly shoved them into her bag. She nodded in thanks and we kept walking.
“OH MY GOSH. CAN YOU PEOPLE WALK ANY SLOWER?!” Will shouted at a couple of sixth graders. “Can’t wait to be rid of the vermin,” He grumbled.
“We were like that too you know,” she snapped at him. “And we’re going to be freshmen next year so it’ll be like being a sixth grader all over again.”
“Ugh. Don’t remind me,” I groaned. I was so not looking forward to high school. I didn’t know then that I was never going to go to high school.
We walked down the front steps of school, down towards the line of buses. When we were almost to our bus I noticed one of Carla’s small hands were in mine and the other in Will’s. She had this sort of stupid grin on her face. I looked over at Will and he just shrugged so I bent down to Carla’s ear and whispered, “Any specific reason for this?” I held up our hands.
“Nope,” was all she said.
We awkwardly got onto our crowded bus and quickly crammed ourselves onto one seat.
“Mike, have you gained weight? A lot of weight? Because I distinctly remember a time when we all fit on the same seat, and we certainly don’t now,” Will asked. I rolled my eyes at him and just looked out the window.

“I’m home mom!” I yelled. I tossed my backpack onto the couch, kicked off my shoes, and walked upstairs to my room.
“Oh Michael! I have wonderful news! Come into the kitchen!” she squealed. I wheeled around and went back down the steps and into the kitchen.
It wasn’t exactly what you’d consider a breathtaking kitchen, fully equipped with tons of pots, a beautiful tile floor, huge island, walls lined with matching hardwood cabinets, and the latest appliances. No, it was just a small, shabby kitchen, with light blue walls, yellow cabinets and countertops, and white everything else.
I sat up on the counter and looked over at my mom who was practically bouncing off the walls. “What is it mom?” I asked.
“You got in to camp Axiom! You know, the one that takes only a couple of people each summer? I’m so proud of you!” She came over to me and gave me a tight hug.
“Can’t breathe mom,” I said breathlessly.
“Oh, right, sorry sweetie!” she stepped back. “And get off the counter! You know I don’t like it when you sit on there. This is a place for food, not for butts.” She scolded.
“Sorry mom. I’ll remember next time.” I jumped off and went back up stairs calling over my shoulder, “Gonna go see if Will and Carla got in too!”
When I got in my room I jumped over a pile of books that were in front of my door and sat in front of my computer. I logged on and waited for Will and Carla to get on. A few minutes later they both came on and I quickly got them into a group chat. After discussing sixth graders and their shortness I asked them.
Me: Did you guys get in??
Will: Hahahahahahahahahahahahah! No.
Carla: Nope. Did you?
Me: I did :)
Will: WHAT?! Lucky!!
Carla: No way! That’s so cool! I’m so happy for you! Be sure to write us letters, and
tell us every little detail! Kay?!
Me: Okay Carla, I will. Hey, you guys wanna come over for dinner? Mom’s “making”
Chinese food.
Will: Can’t. Mum’s being lame :P
Carla: I’m sorry Mike, but I can’t either. :(
Me: Okay. Well… talk to you guys later!
They both said good-bye.
I checked my e-mail and went back downstairs. I leaped onto the couch and turned on the T.V.
“Mike, I expect that room to be spotless before you leave Sunday. You hear?” Mom yelled from the kitchen, picking up the telephone.
“Ya, ya okay mom. Whatever you—” I quickly turned my head towards the kitchen. “SUNDAY?! That means I’ve only got tonight and tomorrow left before I go!”
“Glad to see that you learned how to count in school.” She picked up the phone and punched in the number for our favorite Chinese restaurant. “What do you want Sweetheart? Mushu?”
I sighed dramatically and turned myself back to the T.V., scowling. “Sure mom,” I waved a hand in the air. “Mushu’s great.”
She ordered the food and came into the living room and sat in the chair. We watched a cash cab marathon, ate our food, then went upstairs to get ready, and go to bed. I was brushing my teeth when my mom came in and gave me a kiss on the cheek. “I love you sweetheart! Sweet dreams!” she sang and turned to leave.
“wuv oo ooo.” I said, with a mouth full of toothpaste. I finished up in the bathroom, went to bed, and had a really weird dream.
Huge tanks filled with glowing green liquid. People in them, covered in wires. People in white lab coats walking around with clipboards, poking and writing notes about the people in the tanks. A girl in one of the tanks, with dirty blond hair, opens her eyes revealing nothing but pure white. Help us!
“GAH!” I sat up in bed breathing heavily. “The hell…” I muttered under my breath.
“Michael! Breakfast! Wake up!” my mom call from downstairs. I rolled my eyes and stood up. I took a quick glance at my floor so I could remember where to, and not to, step and walked out of my messy room. I tromped down the steps, passed our tiny living room, and walked over to the kitchen where my mom was. I leaned against the doorframe and looked over at her.
“What, mother, have you attempted to make this time?” I asked, grabbing an apple out of the fruit bowl and taking a big bite.
“I have succeeded in making us eggs and bacon with toast,” She waved her hand at a bunch of black stuff.
“Uh huh… Well, I think I’ll just eat this apple and eat out with Will and Car—”
“Oh no you don’t! That room is going to sparkle before they come over or before you leave. M’kay?” She asked, raising her eyebrow.
I sighed. “Okay…” So back up the stairs I went. I decided to shower and get dressed before I cleaned my room. I turned on the shower, undressed, and turned the radio in there up to 28. Then I showered to “Stayin’ Alive” by The Bee Gees, occasionally joining in, nice and loud. I’m sure that I looked like a total dork, but it’s just how I relax.
“Ah ah ah ah Stayin Aliiiiiive!!” I sang.
I began to dry myself singing to the next song. “Dancing Queeeen! Feel the beat from the tambourine!” I bellowed.
I pulled on a grey t-shirt bearing the words “333 Only half evil”, put on a pair of, what I like to call, my weekend jeans, and got out of the bathroom.
“You know,” I heard my mom say from her room, “sometimes I forget that you’re a boy.” She started to giggle.
I walked over to her bedroom door. “And sometimes I forget that you’re my mother because you maturity level is about here,” I put my hand and inch from the floor. She stuck out her tongue. “That’s what I was talking about,” I grinned
I walked back to my room and looked it over. “This is gonna take me all day,” I sighed. 2 hours later and I swear I saw a sparkle. My mom came up to my door and gasped. “Is…is that…Carpet?!”
“Oh my god you’re right! It is!” I said, playing along.
“I didn’t even know you had some in your room! It’s a miracle Mike!”
“Permission to go out with Will and Carla?” I asked.
“Permission granted. Go have fun kiddo!” She kissed my cheek and went back to her room to read.

Awesome! So exciting! I'm interested that ur main character is a different gender. I can hardly ever find another author that has the opposite gender as the main character! Cool! :) Can't wait to hear more!
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't wait to have time to actually write more. Winter break is just taking it's time.
ReplyDeleteOriginally Michael was going to be a girl but I was like "No man. If I'm basing this character off of my personality (kinda sorta) then it's gonna be a dude!" so ya...
