OH. MY. GOSH.
What has american society come to?! My parents come back from church and this is the conversation we had:
Dad: "I've got a morality type question for ya. If you see a man in the middle of a crosswalk tipped over and unable to get back up into his scooter, what would you do?"
Me:"Get out of your car and help the poor guy!"
Dad: "Right. Well Mark* had this happen to him today and he got out of the car to help the guy as soon as he saw him. When he helped the man back into his scooter he asked him how long he had been like that. '45 minutes' ,he said."
Can you believe this?! For FOURTY-FIVE MINUTES this poor guy was in the middle of a crosswalk!! And people were just driving around him! Has America's people become so selfcentered that the don't even bother to pull over real quick and help a guy? It just kills me to hear stories like this. I mean sure, I understand not helping a homeless man on the side of the road for safety reasons but a HANDYCAPPED MAN LYING IN THE MIDDLE OF A CROSSWALK?! ARGH! I'm just so pissed off now! And it's not just this. It's EVERYWHERE. For example, I use to go to a private Christian school where we all cared for each other and if someone was hurt or sick we were all worried and rushed to their aid. If we saw someone lonely we'd be their company. THAT was what I was used to. Then i go to a new school. A public school. If someone's hurt it's no big deal. If someone drops their books in the middle of a crowded hallway, no on cares. If someone's alone at lunch, no body bothers to invite them to sit in their group. We say we want to save the planet and that we want to save the animals, but to do that we're gonna need to save ourselves first. We need to help each other when help seems to be needed and NOT think of ourselves as the only important thing in this world. I think I'm one of the few people who actually help others. That's just SAD.
How do you help people? do you even do so? Why or why not?
Gall, I'm just so ticked off right now. I think I'll go take a nap or something.
